DUNES

In the bay of Gorliz and Plentzia are very two differentiated zones.

First of all we have the own beach that arises as a result of marine dynamics: erosion that the surge causes in the marine coast, transport by means of the currents of the eroded matter and sedimentation of this one at heart of the bay.

Nevertheless another peculiar zone exists, the dunes zone which which has been generated by the dynamics of the wind. This zone can be found from the opening of the stream of Txatxarro (near to the small hospital) to the end of Astondo and it enter around 400 meters towards the municipality of Gorliz.

Nowadays, however, the road of Plentzia-Gorliz, the great hospital in the middle of the seashore, the zone of parking and some villas cover this dunes zone. In addition the plantation to pines and the road to the hospital avoid the action of the wind stopping the movement of sandy grounds.

On the other hand in Astondo we can find dunes cemented. Rocks formed for 6000 years in a process of sedimentation and petrifaction of the sand. This is a point of special geologic interest that only has other two similar reports in all North of Spain.
